But our cast member Laura doesn't think anything of it and carries on within her work.
We are only 100% certain on what the main character Mr Karloff, the killer is wearing as the other teens will be in either casual clothing or a "typical" school uniform.
We have decided that Mr Karloff with be wearing a scientists lab coat as we thought it would look effective when Laura is murdered and the deep red blood is squirting onto the white lab coat. We also think that his costume will help make his character look creepier as not many science teachers wear the traditional lab coats anymore so it makes him look aged and a little crazy.
Here is an example of the lab coat we would like to use in our movie.

We have dressed our villian in a white lab coat to link back to the hammer horror films, such as Dr Frankenstein in this image...
We have decided that the students in our film will all wear casual clothing. We decided this as in most horror films the teens in them are wearing casual clothes that give them their own identity whereas a uniform shows they are all equal to each other, the clothing will show which characters have power as they are wearing the more "stylish" clothing and are more popular.
The girls will either be wearing a casual dress or Jeans and a top, which the boys will also be wearing.

Can you give an example of where the 'mad scientist' has been seen in similar horror films? What does the coat connote? Is it intertextual?
ReplyDeleteGood revisions here Jade. Have a think about what the audience will think about the lab coat. What does white connote? Will the audience see him for being a villain OR for being an intelligent, heroic teacher?
ReplyDeleteWhat about the other characters?
